“This DAO Special contains papers based on presentations made at the 11th International Coral Reef Symposium (2008, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA). The contributing authors provide an update on coral disease research, including new advances in the microbiology of causative agents, epidemiological modelling studies, and the role of climate as a driver of disease. They also consider management needs in light of a rapidly changing environment of coral diseases.”

I don’t know about you but I had forgotten all about the free flyer called SeaScope by a company called Aquarium Systems. By the way, that name doesn’t seem to be used anymore. Now they are called Instant Ocean after their most popular (by far) product, Instant Ocean salt mix (IO).

It’s fun to read the old issues once again. It is also kind of strange to notice how much was actually known 20 years ago and how much there still exists confusion about the same issues today. I think it’s fare to say that only logical conclusion is that we more experienced hobbyists routinely fail to explain different aspects of reef aquariums in thorough and easy to understand manner. Of course this applies to authors of books and magazine articles as well; maybe even more so as they are supposed to be professional writers.

Anyways, click here to get to the index of SeaScope issues!
